Life Mastery is not about knowing it all.
Or about living life perfectly.
Life Mastery is about taking 100% responsibility for your life.
It’s about living a life according to your own values, not everyone else’s.
It’s about the courage to embrace fear, instead of running from it.
It’s about failing gracefully and succeeding beyond your expectations.
It's about loving yourself despite your imperfections, or perhaps, because of them.
Life Mastery is both, being perfect AND allowing yourself to do better.
Life Mastery is about living a life of meaning, filled with love and kindness.
Hi!
I'm Edith, founder of kids life mastery. Thank you for checking out my story. Here’s a little about me...
I immigrated to the United States from Mexico at a young age. I received my Masters of Social Work from USC along with a Masters Specialty Degree in Clinical Military Social Work. In addition, I studied Social Entrepreneurship at the Tata Institute in Mumbai, India, and Expressive Clinical Therapies at Tel Aviv University in Israel.
While studying and working abroad, I witnessed in person what most only read about – the very real pain and poverty of children and families. This experience moved me so much that I created a new life mission for myself: to help the children and families I see every day, and the faceless around the world who need our help so desperately.
I’ve dedicated my heart and soul to my passion of serving kids and adolescents since graduating high school, and since my experience traveling abroad I've became more intentional about the work. As a social worker, I worked with high-risk youth, pregnant teens, incarcerated youth, kids of veterans, and with kids and adolescents with perceived mental and physical disabilities.
Through my work, I learned that no matter the story, most kids had three major emotional needs – to be loved, to be heard, and to be seen.
These kids weren’t broken, or bad; on the contrary, they were perfect, beautifully whole, naturally creative and made of love. Once heard and seen, these kids were excited to learn and implement new tools and new ways of thinking and living. Most importantly, their resiliency came to the forefront. I discovered that most kids loved creative expression. And using tools like the visual arts, movement and music, helped the kids flourish and express their deeper, truer selves.
Along the way in my journey, I personally discovered yoga and mediation. It had a powerful and profound impact on my life. And I was even more excited knowing that I had one more skill, gift if you will, to share with these kids. I slowly started to integrate yoga and meditation into my creative and expressive approach with children. And WOW! The change was incredible and quite shocking! These kids were not only more resilient. They were more courageous, happier, more joyful.
In 2014, I moved with my family to Austin, where we opened Austin Yoga Tree. Our baby boy was also born. With a new mindfulness center and child, I began to look for a mindfulness and resilience program for kids that we could bring to the studio. There were kids yoga classes, and there were academic classes, but I found nothing that included the resiliency skills needed for kids to thrive, inside and out. So, I took my 20 years of experience working with children, researched the science of neuroplasticity and success, and created Kids Life Mastery, a program that combines life coaching and current science with ancient mindfulness teachings.
The success stories have been numerous and quite life changing! A current 15-year-old student finally worked up the courage to go up to her favorite author, meet them, talk to them, ask for an autograph, and take a picture with them. I asked her, “how were you able to do that?” And she answered, "Kids Life Mastery taught me to harness my breath to help ease my anxiety and that on the other side of courage is something much greater to be gained, self-worth and joy.”
Another current student with high-functioning autism, went from zero minutes of meditation to 15 minutes of meditation. Went from doing zero minutes of yoga to now helping design yoga sequences for kids with Autism in just one semester of Kids Life Mastery!
These are the stories that fill my cup. This kind of impact is what gives me joy and hope for the future.
I’m a wife to my soul-fried and soul-partner, Jonathan, and a mom to the most precious of beings, Mateo. It’s my privilege to share the gifts of Kids Life Mastery and help transform the next generation. This work is my honor.
